LEGAL FRAMEWORK

Ontario runs a regulated market

★★★★★ Licensed

Since April 2022, Ontario has run an open market of AGCO-registered operators. Everywhere else in Canada, the government runs the only authorized online casino.

DO THIS FIRST

Five checks before you register

A short list that takes five minutes and saves most of the headaches.

Is it legal where I live?

In Ontario, only AGCO-registered operators are authorized. In other provinces, the provincial lottery corporation runs the only authorized online casino. An operator that is 'available' is not the same as 'authorized for your province.'

What are the real withdrawal steps?

Compare deposits and withdrawals separately. Check verification (KYC), processing windows, fees, and whether the cashout method must match the deposit method.

Can I set a limit right now?

A trustworthy operator lets you cap deposits, losses and time in seconds. If the limit tool is buried, that is a signal.

Is the bonus worth the strings?

Read the wagering multiple, eligible games, max bet, expiry and max cashout. If the full terms are hard to find, skip the offer. See our bonus guide.

What does support actually do?

Test the help channel with a real question before you deposit. Slow or scripted answers now predict slow payouts later.
Our standing rule

No bonus, game or operator is worth more than your rent, your groceries or your peace of mind. If you cannot answer the five questions above, do not register.

MONEY

How money moves for Canadian players

Deposits are easy; withdrawals are the real test.

InteracMost common CAD route
InstadebitCanadian e-wallet
PaysafecardPrepaid, no card
1-3 daysTypical cashout window

Deposits versus withdrawals

Deposits are near-instant and rarely the problem. Withdrawals trigger identity verification, and that is where mismatched methods, pending periods and fees show up. Always check the cashout path before you fund the account.

Currency and conversion

Prefer a site that settles in Canadian dollars. If you are quoted in EUR or USD, conversion spreads can quietly shrink a win. Ask who covers the spread before you deposit.

Credit cards are not a given

Some operators and provinces discourage or block credit-card deposits. A debit route or Interac is usually cleaner and keeps gambling off high-interest credit.

QUESTIONS

Questions Canadians actually ask

The ones we hear most, answered plainly.

Is online casino gambling legal in Canada?

It depends on the province. The federal Criminal Code lets provinces authorize and conduct gaming; private operators are only lawful where a province has authorized them. Ontario authorizes a competitive market; most other provinces run the only authorized site themselves.

What changed with single-event betting?

Bill C-218, which received Royal Assent on August 27, 2021, amended the Criminal Code so provinces could authorize betting on a single sports event. It is a sports-betting change, but it signals how province-by-province Canada's gambling rules really are.

Why does my province matter more than the brand?

Because authorization is provincial. A brand that is fully licensed in Ontario may be unauthorized where you live. Check your province first, then the operator.

What about sites licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission?

Kahnawake is an Indigenous regulator near Montreal with a long history. Its licences are not Canadian provincial licences, and provincial regulators do not treat them as authorization to serve residents. Many international sites hold one - which is exactly why your provincial check matters.
RESPONSIBLE PLAY

Play within your means

Free tools exist. Use them before you need them.

Set limits before you start

Deposit, loss and session-time limits are free and take seconds. Turn them on the moment you open the account.

Know the helplines

Ontario: ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600. Quebec: Jeu - aide et reference at 1-800-463-1554. Every province runs a responsible-gambling service, and national resources such as CAMH and the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) publish guidance. If gambling stops being fun, reach out.

Self-exclusion is your right

Every regulated market offers a self-exclusion program. Use it the moment you decide to stop; it is stronger than willpower.
